Planet Smoothie Franchise Celebrates New Opening in Alabama
Married entrepreneurs make news by opening a new smoothie franchise in their Alabama community
The Shelby County Reporter, the community newspaper that serves the area’s population of more than 200,000 people, recently published an in-depth article exploring why new franchisees Clay and Penny Campbell decided to open a smoothie franchise.
“A lot of people, when they’ve come in, have said, ‘Finally!’ ” Clay Campbell says in the article. “We’ve had a really good reception.”
The husband-and-wife team spent nearly 30 years as music ministers until they tragically lost their teenage daughter in a car accident. Deep in grief, the couple decided to change careers and serve their community in a different way.
“When something like that happens, everything stops. We were trying to figure out where to go from there,” Campbell says in the article. “We felt like God has led us in this direction. It’s been a good journey.”
The Campbells celebrated their grand opening in March, and their new business is near a local hospital; it serves the hospital staff, patients, the nearby students at the University of Montevallo and the entire Shelby community. The paper points out that the new business already is growing an enthusiastic fan base:
“I love smoothies, so I’m going to be here a lot. This is where my paycheck is going to go,” says Olivia Levasseur, a new Planet Smoothie fan, in the article.
