Meet Teresa Rinaldis, Pennsylvania’s Newest Planet Smoothie Franchisee
Longtime food-service entrepreneur saw the many positives of a Planet Smoothie up close and decided it was the right fit for her
When it comes to why owning and operating a Planet Smoothie® franchise is a sound business decision, seeing is believing. Just ask Teresa Rinaldis, a 30-year veteran of restaurant ownership who’s in the process of opening her own Planet Smoothie in Hazle Township, Pennsylvania.
“My brother-in-law Joe Mazzarella owns Planet Smoothie franchise locations in Wilkes-Barre Township and the Wyoming Valley Mall,” says Teresa. “The more I tried the smoothies, the more I felt they were a great product. I’ve seen how his business has developed, and I had the space to try one of my own so decided I’d go for it.”
Adaptable footprint provides flexibility
Teresa has been operating another food-oriented franchise concept in The Laurel Mall, and after a buildout and redesign that’s where she’ll operate her Planet Smoothie franchise. Because Planet Smoothie can be operated both as a stand-alone store or as a smaller business in a mall, convenience store or even train station setting, Teresa was able to move ahead with her plan.
“The Planet Smoothie kiosk model works for me, because I have counter space and a back area for prep, but wouldn’t have room for the entire menu,” she explains. “I’d been thinking about this for a while, but knew that at least my first franchise would have to be in a smaller space. Planet Smoothie works out very well for me.”
Smoothies will be a new offering
She’s also excited about how she believes her Planet Smoothie franchise will help the mall’s overall business.
“There’s nothing like Planet Smoothie here, and the mall management is very excited because they think it’ll be a great addition,” she says. “This is a nice little mall, and it stays busy. I think Planet Smoothie will bring more people in who want to try us out, and that will help my business, as well as all the other ones around me.”
