“The mall-based stores are our most visible locations, and they do well because a lot of work goes into finding just the right spot,” John says. “Our real-estate team works with new franchise owners to study traffic patterns and business viability, but the owners also bring a lot to the table because they know their community, and they often have a great place picked out before we even talk about the franchise opportunity.”
Kiosks and smaller models add value to other properties
Planet Smoothie also can be scaled down to fit in a smaller space, such as the New York location in Penn Station, and a kiosk model is available to place in office buildings and other high-traffic urban settings. These locations may have a limited menu, but work as great fill-in sites for a franchise owner with larger stores, or for someone who wants to add Planet Smoothie to an existing business.
“There is a growing interest in adding Planet Smoothie franchises to convenience stores, where we know they would drive traffic and also add to sales,” John says. “And the volume of traffic at the Penn Station Planet Smoothie has led us to begin looking at other major transportation sites, including airports, so that franchise owners can grow Planet Smoothie wherever they see an opportunity.”
