As small business owners, Planet Smoothie® franchisees often fill an important role in their local community. Among the many hats they might wear are community member, employer and supporter of local nonprofits, schools and other groups.
The Daytona Beach Planet Smoothie location, for example, launched a 12 Months of Giving campaign this year. Each month the local franchise partners with a community organization, promoting the partnership on Facebook® and through other marketing initiatives. A dollar donation is made to the featured organization each time a special coupon is redeemed at the Daytona Beach Planet Smoothie. The Florida Planet Smoothie has partnered with several organizations this year, including the Daytona Beach Police Foundation and Halifax Humane Society.

Visible support promotes local charities

“Planet Smoothie has dozens of franchise owners who, either on their own or in partnership with others, have a booth or giveaway at 5Ks, health fairs and many other events, if they are in a large urban area,” Wuycheck says. “They like putting their support into action whenever they can, and those engagements help build a lot of goodwill for the brand.”
Mentorship provides job skills for local youth
Many Planet Smoothie franchise owners also pride themselves on mentoring young employees. The experience they gain while working at Planet Smoothie goes beyond making and selling smoothies to learning the ins and outs of running a small business, from customer service best practices to bookkeeping, inventory control and other core skills.
“This is just another way that communities benefit from the skills these franchise owners provide,” Wuycheck says. “By providing not just job opportunities, but the chance to build valuable and marketable skills, they are helping grow the next generation of business leaders right there where they live.”
