Planet Smoothie Franchisee Michelle Williams Makes an Impact in Downtown Tucson
Planet Smoothie franchise owner opens her second store in the heart of Tucson
When we last wrote about Michelle and Alonzo Williams, the couple was eagerly anticipating the opening of their second location. They opened their first store in 2012, and it became a quick success. Demand was so strong that they started looking for additional locations.
They settled on a neighborhood they love in the heart of downtown Tucson. Their second store, at 345 E. Congress, is surrounded by offices as well as students from the University of Arizona. It’s lively, it’s hip, and it’s been well received by the community!
The Downtown Tucson Partnership wrote an article about Planet Smoothie’s arrival. Here’s some of what they shared:
Downtown Tucson has seen an explosion of eateries in the past couple years. One after another, great restaurants have poured forth from our midtown cornucopia. But few of them are places to snag a quick snack or lunch. If that’s what you’re looking for, I have two words for you — Planet Smoothie.
The sleek new smoothie and frozen yogurt spot at 413 E. Congress, tucked into the bottom of the Cadence parking garage near the Fourth Avenue underpass, offers an über-healthy, über-affordable alternative to gourmet burgers and mac and cheese.
Owners Michelle and Alonzo Williams, who won the company’s rookie store of the year for their Planet Smoothie shop at 7315 N. Oracle, are hosting a grand opening Sept. 13 for the Downtown store. They aren’t just trying to make money — they want to embrace Tucson and make us all a little bit healthier.
Planet Smoothie isn’t junk food. It’s real food, although there are touches of fun like gummi bears and sprinkles to top your frozen yogurt. They use organic ingredients when possible, and they have a wide range of healthy additions for your drinks.
Passion for growth
Michelle and Alonzo are passionate about nutrition and enjoy serving healthier options to customers, but they also enjoy mentoring employees.
The downtown partnership says the Williamses told their 15 employees, most of them college students, that they plan to help them learn job skills that will help them grow into whatever professions they choose.
Michelle sees the Planet Smoothie franchise as an opportunity to improve the lives of customers and employees — all while making money by meeting a huge demand.
“My customers are always asking us to open in more places,” she says. “I think it’s our duty to continue to grow here in Tucson.”
