Meet Tyrone Forbes, Florida’s Newest Planet Smoothie Franchise Owner
Smoothie lover becomes smoothie franchise owner thanks to Planet Smoothie’s easy onboarding system that covers site selection, training and more.
Tyrone Forbes is an avid fan of three things: coffee, tea and smoothies. It was his love of the latter that got him into a Planet Smoothie® franchise, and from there his love of the product led to becoming a franchise owner himself.
“I have owned a couple of other businesses and am always looking for a good opportunity,” Tyrone says. “When I realized I was indulging in a smoothie on a daily basis, I figured other people were as well. I did my research and came to believe that a smoothie business would be a good fit for me, and would have a strong chance for success. From there, it was just a matter of looking more closely at Planet Smoothie because I thought it had the best business model.”
Ease of operation was a draw
Tyrone liked the ingredients used for Planet Smoothie products, and also the fact that while food is involved, it’s not a full-scale restaurant.
“I am a food addict and love to be in my kitchen, but I want to choose when I am in there,” he says. “I wouldn’t own a restaurant even if I was the greatest chef on earth. That’s a very special passion, for very special people. I don’t want to be cooking all the time, and Planet Smoothie lets me indulge my interest and passion for smoothies without having to own and operate a business with all the headaches a regular restaurant would have.”
Franchise-engagement process easy and efficient
Tyrone broached the idea to his wife, Lydia Ortiz Forbes, who was equally enthusiastic, and so the two began a series of conversations with Orlando, Florida, based Area Developer Jason Mann about purchasing a territory. They soon found the franchise-onboarding process to be as streamlined as operating a Planet Smoothie franchise itself would be.
“It’s all clean lines,” Tyrone says. “Jason jumped right in and gave us lots of help when we began looking for the right location. We settled on a shopping center that’s being built, and that is going to have a lot of great anchor tenants when it opens in spring 2017. We’re across from an existing shopping center, and a movie-theater complex is being built next door. We’ll be the first Planet Smoothie franchise in Eustis, and we’re very excited.”
Jason and the corporate team have been a phone call away to answer questions, something else Tyrone says has made a big difference.
“Everyone has done an excellent job, and we’ve been very engaged throughout,” he says. “Now we’re just getting everything into place so that when the site is built out we can get in there, work with Jason and the team on marketing and training, and start developing a great business!”
