Planet Smoothie Franchise Expands Into Convenience Store Arena
Growth in nontraditional storefront spaces continues as new opportunities for franchise success are brought online
The innovation at every Planet Smoothie franchise isn’t limited to the menu board. Often it’s the franchise site itself.
Planet Smoothie is aggressively pursuing new locations in nontraditional, but highly trafficked spots, such as our popular location in New York City’s Penn Station. The numbers posted by that location have teams scouring the landscape for other opportunities, and convenience stores are a natural fit. The underlying premise? Find a place where people congregate, and chances are there’s a spot for a Planet Smoothie franchise to thrive.
Busy sites can support smaller operations
“What we look for is an area with high foot traffic,” says John Wuycheck, Senior Vice President of Franchise Development. “We know the people are there, and that’s half the battle. Once we open up, they flock in. We saw that in Penn Station, and that’s why we’re evaluating airports, train stations, amusement parks or any area where people congregate. That certainly includes convenience stores, which see a steady stream of traffic around the clock.”
A nontraditional Planet Smoothie can be located anywhere from the sites John mentions to an office building, movie theater, hotel, cart or kiosk — even a high school or college campus. These may be smaller locations, but their ability to meet consumer demand in nontraditional settings is a win-win for franchise owners and customers alike.
Unusual locations help brand stand out
“People love smoothies; the industry’s numbers bear that out,” John says. “They love that a smoothie is a ‘grab and go’ item, often a meal replacement. When we can offer it to them as they are on their way to a train, or paying for some gas, then we really win with that customer. They love our product, they love our convenience — and they come back.”
Planet Smoothie is a smoothie franchise that sets itself apart by offering great-tasting smoothies that use healthier, natural ingredients.
