Second time was the charm when it came to the entrepreneurial ambitions of Brad Lindborg and the Planet Smoothie franchise concept. Up and running since June 2017 in Augusta, Georgia, Brad says that his business-ownership dreams are being realized in a big way.
“I looked at Planet Smoothie back in the late 1990s, but I wasn’t quite ready to commit to the brand at that stage of its development,” Brad recalls. “But since then, I’ve had a number of friends become involved with other Kahala Brands™ franchises and seen a lot of satisfying growth. One thing led to another, and here we are.”
Brand works well in mall setting
Although many retail watchers say that malls are declining, Brad reports strong business at his Planet Smoothie franchise in the Augusta Mall, where he operates two additional food concepts.
“I put the Planet Smoothie down in the middle, and it has worked out very well,” he says. “We see a lot of foot traffic, and when we give out samples, we drive a lot of business directly to the window from people who may have just been walking by before. Planet Smoothie is not very well known in our neck of the woods, and when shoppers try it they really light up. Nobody has ever said they didn’t like it — and most wanted to know what was in it. People think they know smoothies until they try ours, and we get a very pleasant response.”
Ease of operations one of many pluses
Brad Lindborg’s also been surprised — in a good way — at the ease of setting up a Planet Smoothie franchise. From the initial training to hiring and prepping staff, he says there’s been valuable help and insight at every stage.
“I really wanted to make sure we were in a good place to train younger employees, because I like the idea of being someone’s first, best job,” he says. “Planet Smoothie allows that. If you can grasp the idea of mixing and blending things, then this is an accessible concept that’s easy to learn.”
The entire concept gels for him, he adds, noting that the menu, décor and all other components are appealing to him as a business owner, as well as to the general public.
“The design is fresh and up-to-date, and it just really implies that we are offering something fresh and cool,” he says. “People have really taken to us, and it was definitely worth the wait to get on board. We feel right about Planet Smoothie® and are happy to own this business.”
